Easter Parade

Mary Chalmers. HarperCollins Publishers, $12 (32pp) ISBN 978-0-06-021232-2

""Every spring there is an Easter Parade,'' the story begins, and rabbits, ducks and chickens ``meet at Easter Farm and load up their carts.'' The farmyard is a scene of busy preparation as baskets are packed with colored eggs, wagons loaded, garlands strung and ponies readied. Baskets are given to a variety of animals, including chipmunks, beaver, porcupines and possums, all dressed in their Sunday best. A sleepy ladybug is almost left behind, but everyone is safely packed up before the caravan makes its way back to the farm. Delicate woodland wildflowers, daffodils and tulips bloom throughout the illustrations, adding a festive touch to this simple, seasonal story. Ages 3-6. (February)
