Body Worry

Remar Sutton. Penguin Books, $9.95 (48pp) ISBN 978-0-14-009744-3

In 1987, the middle-aged Sutton's candid account of how he transformed himself from a chunk to a hunk (Remar Sutton's Body Worry) muscled its way up the bestseller lists. This paperback edition reflects a significant difference: the original how-I-did-it story has been expanded to include a how-you-can-do-it-too book (the ""Body Worry Program''). The sections begin with self-evaluation tests and diaries to chart progress. A team of experts is credited with creating the sensible if familiar diet and exercise program, which includes aerobics and strength training, recipes, menus and nutrition tables. What makes the paperback worth reading is what made its predecessor popularRemar's ability to phrase pedestrian advice memorably (for example, he suggests a family scavenger hunt through the larder as an aid to education and behavior modification; as he unfolds his ``godly'' eating plan he tells readers to ``take a break, go eat something bad''). This plump package (twice the size of the cloth edition) is rounded out by success stories and a challenge: dare to dreamyour fantasy can come true. (May)
