Follow That Bear!

Julia Killingback. Oxford University Press, USA, $4.95 (24pp) ISBN 978-0-19-520600-5

These two books in the Busy Bear series feature a family of jumping, laughing, playing bears who have a lot of fun but happen to instruct along the way. In Follow That Bear!, prepositions are in bold type as Baby Bear leads the way through a Fun Park: "" `Quick, we must catch him!' '' says Mrs. Bear. `Climb UP the steps, see if he's there!' '' and `` `Watch me slide DOWNhere's what you do! Come on, bears! You try it too!' '' Wake Up, Busy Bears! highlights opposites, first showing sleeping bears, then wide-awake ones; sad bears as Mrs. Bear goes off to work and happy bears who will have fun with Dad. Because there are so many fuzzy bears dancing at a dizzying pace across these pages, the pictures tend to look somewhat alike. But there are bountiful details for readers to pore over in two brightly engaging small books. Ages 3-6. (October)
