Murder and romance mix in this modern New York City mystery debut. Ike and Abby Abagnarro, formerly wife and husband, respectively, continue to work together in the control room at NTB network's Morning Watch news show. After they discover Connie Candela, their new anchor, dead in her studio chair, they team up to clear Abby, who doesn't have an alibi for the crucial 11-minute span during which the body could have been placed on the set. While the duo work around the the NYPD to dig up dirt on their own, they become the next targets for the murderer. A nerve-gas canister attached to Abby's rollerblades leads to the evacuation of the NTB building; they are shot at, and another canister of nerve gas is thrown onto the Staten Island Ferry. Although the action sometimes slows, this bickering twosome, who display a constant bedrock affection, keep up the pace as narrator Abby and his ambitious ex-wife Ike identify the murderer and the motive.
