Wish Upon a Cowboy

Kathleen Kane. St. Martin's Press, $5.99 (320pp) ISBN 978-0-312-97290-5

In Kane's new supernatural romance (after Dreamweaver), Hannah Lowell, a 19th-century witch from Creekford, Mass., a town inhabited entirely by witches and warlocks, is sent west to marry ""the Mackenzie,"" a young warlock who has become a Wyoming rancher. Mac is still mourning the death of his wife, along with their baby, during childbirth. Hannah's aunt Eudora, nevertheless, believes that Mac is the only one powerful enough to save Creekford from the tyrannical warlock Blake Wolcott, who's taken over the town and wants to marry Hannah to help increase his power. Mac, however, doesn't know he's a warlock--and he doesn't believe in magic and witches. Kane blends folk legend and magic into a charming, though unlikely, plot. (Feb.)
