Based on a true story, Dustship Glory takes place in 1934 and is about Tom Sukanen, a Finnish-Canadian who decides to build a ship in the middle of a wheatfield in Saskatchewan. Although the author spoke with people who knew the actual builder and generally regarded him as crazy (which may have had more to do with his nearly incomprehensible accent than anything else), the tale reads more like fiction than a biography. And it is a refreshing tale: Sukanen appears as a man who dares to be different, shuns convention and ignores his neighbors' lack of imagination. He has a strong and vibrant personality, and although at first he seems trapped, he overcomes every obstacle. (May)
