Virna Depaul. Bantam, $7.99 mass market (384p) ISBN 978-0-345-54245-8

Simplistic and fluffy, DePaul’s first Belladonna Agency paranormal will appeal to readers who like their vampires sexy, their heroines spunky and unaware of their own unending charms, and their narrative elementary. Former gang member Ana Martin (whose flavorful exclamations in Spanish were clearly written by someone who doesn’t speak Spanish) must join a Charlie’s Angels–style group of multitalented femmes fatales to infiltrate a cult and save her sister, all while resisting—and, of course, eventually indulging—her inexplicable sexual obsession with her vampiric FBI handler, Ty. Discriminating readers may find disbelief hard to suspend, as Ty and Ana form an instant and meaningful bond, and DePaul skips character development in favor of caricature, but readers looking only for fangs and sex scenes will find plenty of them here. Agent: Holly Root, Scott Waxman Agency. (Apr.)
