Constance O'Day-Flannery. Avon Books, $6.5 (384pp) ISBN 978-0-380-80169-5

Mairie Callahan, 37, skydives from present-day Las Vegas into 1877 Paiute territory, where she is greeted by Jack Delaney, a bitter ex-soldier on a vision quest. After some preliminary and rather dull skirmishes, Jack shows Mairie a plant that might cure her brother Bryan's leukemia, if only she can get it back to the 20th century. Complicating her life still further is a jaw-dropping gorgeous Navy SEAL who has followed her back in time--for Mairie's dislocation is the fault of a government experiment. When she and Jack manage to parachute back to the 20th century, they must relocate the magic plant for Bryan's cure while eluding the Feds (Mairie donning a cheap blond wig). Fans of O'Day-Flannery's latest (Second Chances) will find the plot far-fetched and many events poorly explained. (Jan.)
