Delaney's Shadow

Ingrid Weaver. Berkley Sensation, $7.99 mass market (336p) ISBN 987-0-425-24268-1

In this overly-analytical tale of romantic suspense, Weaver (Within Striking Distance) depicts the intense bond between heroine Delaney Graye and her imaginary childhood friend, Max. After a car accident kills her husband and leaves her injured, Delaney returns to her grandmother's home to recuperate and recover her lost memories of the accident. To help cope, she thinks about Max, though in her mind, he's now all grown up. Little does she know that Max%E2%80%94a.k.a. John Harrison%E2%80%94is all too real and that the two of them forged their psychic connection as children when he saved her from drowning. Though Max tries to keep his distance from Delaney, he comes to her rescue time and again, especially when it becomes apparent that someone is out to hurt her. Unfortunately, the thin suspense plot, with its lack of suspects, quickly grows tiresome, as do Max's callous actions toward Delaney, and her obsession with him. (Aug.)
