Like The Little Engine That Could , these Pop-Up Trucks at Work board books feature various vehicles personified and given can-do spirit. Each one saves the day: Bulldozer, for example, rolls a boulder into a hole in a dam, Fire Truck rescues a kitten from a flaming building. Text is serviceable, the illustrations favor primary colors and the trucks are endowed with facial features. The pop-ups, however, are particularly well integrated and unusually varied for books in this price range. The boulder seems to roll into the crumbling dam; Fire Truck's ladder extends to reach the imperiled cat; Hi-Loader pours a shovelful of dirt into Dump Truck.
