My Lithuania

Lithuanian photographer Macijauskas documents the daily lives of his country's rural people in candid, dramatic, grainy black-and-white photos taken between 1966 and 1986. Fondness and respect for his subjects are expressed in brief commentaries and four photographic series: ``Village Markets'' presents farmers, moments of levity, livestock and their casual slaughter; ``Summer'' portrays vacationers at a beach; ``The Veterinary Clinic'' depicts humans, farm animals, struggle and pain; ``Parades'' shows social gatherings, rallies and funerals. Macijauskas's powerful images, ranging from the grim to the comic, startle the reader with every turn of the page. (June)
