The Counting Zoo: A Pop-Up Number Book

More than the sum of its parts, this dynamic book promotes a variety of counting activities. Turn the pages, and oversize, vividly colored numerals from one to 10 spring from the spreads. Numbers also appear in word form as a corresponding number of animals cavorts. Creatures from earlier pages visit their pals later in the book; each animal wears a costume sporting the numeral of the spread on which it first appeared. On the last spread, numbered flaps conceal pop-ups of the animals showing off an appropriately sized assortment of objects--behind door No. 8, for example, a lop-eared rabbit in a bib marked ``8'' juggles eight colored spheres. A gatefold flap reinforces the counting lesson by reprising the festivities. It all adds up to good clean fun. Ages 3-6. (Oct.)
