Good Morning

Deep-toned, scumbled artwork imparts individuality to an otherwise undistinguished board book quartet. In this Jump at the Sun series, both text and art are framed by a handsome primitive border (a consistent yellow zigzag pattern against varied chalky tones), while the portraits themselves give off a soft, burnished glow. Though the texts demonstrate the coziness of familiar rituals, there's no new ground broken when the subjects, African American families, go about the eponymous activities. ``I wake up and the sun is shining,'' declaims Good Morning 's hero; ``I put on my favorite pajamas and climb into bed,'' says the Good Night girl.
