Real Steps to Enlightenment: Dynamic Tools to Create Change

Amy Elizabeth Garcia, . . Llewellyn, $14.95 (241pp) ISBN 978-0-7387-0896-6

A better title for this book might be "How I Reached Enlightenment." Garcia, a Reiki master and founder of the Spiritual Awareness Network, has put together a very personal narrative. She combines 33 channeled messages from her spiritual contact, Jahallah, an entity from the causal plane, with reflections on her own life and journeys, Angel prayers and simple exercises. Through Garcia, Jahallah illustrates a variety of topics such as adventure, non-resistance and synergy, by recalling events from several of his incarnations in our world. Garcia has an unbridled enthusiasm for her chosen field, and metaphysicists used to sharing their experiences will appreciate her candor and sincerity. While she maintains an impeccably consistent chapter format, including a space to note three ways to incorporate the lesson into everyday life, her ideas sometimes have a discomfiting naïveté about them and may not be practical in today's world. Also, the suggestion to practice support by "accompany(ing) your spouse on an outing that interests him..." becomes disingenuous with the added advice to "act like you are enjoying yourself." Devoid of any introduction to the concept of channeling or engaging of Angel guides, this book is best for readers with at least a cursory experience with metaphysics. (June)
