The Liar's Club

Layla Jordan, Kensington/Dafina, $14 trade paper (320p) ISBN 978-0-7582-4703-2

Social-climbing Sinclair, who grew up on the mean streets of south Detroit but is now the wife of controlling Hollywood magnate Omar Fines, leads the Rodeo Drive lifestyle to the fullest in this raw novel from the pseudonymous Jordan. Since Omar's body is less well-endowed than his wallet, Sinclair must look elsewhere for satisfaction. Her life gets even more interesting when her first (and not quite ex-) husband, Kwame Franklin, whom Sinclair sees as "nothing but a big, chocolate body of temptation," gets out of jail with payback in mind. While side plots centering on two of Sinclair's girlfriends mostly go nowhere, the main story is meaty enough to keep the narrative juices flowing. Readers prepared for hardcore sex scenes, domestic violence, and plenty of explicit trash talk will find just what they're looking for. (Dec.)
