Reclaiming Morality in America

William Murchinson. Thomas Nelson Publishers, $16.99 (189pp) ISBN 978-0-7852-8168-9

In a preachy, simplistic tract, Murchison, a Dallas Morning Star columnist, urges Americans to reawaken spiritually to reverse the moral decay evidenced in increased violence and crime, erosion of family values, a failed school system and disregard of ``common obligation.'' We no longer recognize our ``origins as creatures of God subject to the Creator's commands.'' He argues that individualism has replaced authority, leading to such social ""ills"" as sexual liberation and pornography, self-gratification, homosexuality and abortion. Murchison calls on church, family and education to play a major role in fusing our secular culture with morality based on obedience to God. (Nov.)
