What Husbands Need: Reaching His Heart and Reclaiming His Passion

Judy Carden. Kregel Publications, $9.99 (111pp) ISBN 978-0-8254-2407-6

Author and MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) speaker Carden opens her slim text by telling Christian women what they already know: they're too busy for their families, themselves and, most especially, their husbands. Carden (co-author of God Things Come in Small Packages) offers a to-the-point primer on how to bring romance, tenderness and passion to a marriage gone stale. Using the scripture text found in Matthew 6:21, ""For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also,"" Carden challenges women to consider their husbands' needs first and in so doing, they will find their treasure in a marital relationship that exceeds previous experience and expectation. She offers counsel on respecting one's spouse, allowing needed breathing room, recapturing the essence of being the beauty in a husband's heart, cherishing chivalrous acts and making love last a lifetime. Although each chapter offers thoughtful take-aways, Carden's perspective on the need for solitude is especially helpful as she describes men who need both closeness and time alone in order to recharge and come back ready to love their families. Many evangelical Christian women will appreciate Carden's intelligent, wise advice.
