It's Me

Yehudah Atlas. Adama Books, $9.95 (44pp) ISBN 978-0-915361-20-5

Since this book's original appearance in Israel eight years ago, it has sold over 100,000 copies. Lacks succeeds in translating Atlas's Hebrew text, not an easy job since his small boy's confidences are in rhymes. Asserting ""It's Me,'' he describes experiences any boy or girl can understand. He breaks things unintentionally; he wishes his father owned a candy store; he can tell when his parents aren't listenting to him; he expects presents he doesn't get from a hoped-for source. . . . But the lad details happier moments, not just disappointments. Kerman's lively drawings add an unusual touch, windows with red frames through which the reader sees the happenings, a different window each time. (All ages)
