What Would Ben Stein Do?: Applying the Wisdom of a Modern-Day Pundit to Tackle the Challenges of Work and Life

Ben Stein. Wiley, $21.95 (224p) ISBN 978-1-118-03817-8

In this irreverent forum, Stein, an award-winning financial journalist who is best known to the public as an actor, answers life's important questions. Though he certainly entertains fans, the book is unlikely to earn him any new ones. However, even readers new to Stein's humor may appreciate his practical advice. For example, Stein intones, "YOU MUST HAVE SAVINGS." In today's horrid financial climate, who could argue? He also instructs readers to "be on time" and tells a funny story about "Evita," a would-be writer who came to his house late, reeking of gin, and proceeded to clean out his refrigerator. Near the end, Stein addresses the economy and in doing so, may alienate Republicans, Democrats, or both. Whatever camp you fall in, dear reader, it's unlikely that his advice will raise your ire, and you'll probably get a chuckle or two from this book. (Oct.)
