Tales from Titchmarsh: A Year in the Garden

Alan Titchmarsh. Hodder & Stoughton (IPG, dist.), $13.95 (288p) ISBN 978-1-444-72884-2

In the United States, British gardener Titchmarsh is best known as the host of the BBC import Ground Force, a garden makeover television program. In the U.K., he has appeared on countless gardening programs, including as the BBC host of the world-famous Chelsea Flower Show, and written dozens of books and articles on gardening. This new title collects many of his monthly columns from Gardeners’ World Magazine. There are familiar but funny tales of aspiration, frustration, and mystification in the garden. Titchmarsh’s friendly and intimate voice makes it a breezy read. There is not much new information, but those who already enjoy the broadcaster’s lighthearted mixture of horticultural advice and folksy good humor will find plenty of it. They will also discover his more thoughtful musings on life in and out of the garden. (Aug.)
