Guess Who’s Hiding in the Forest?

In one of two titles kicking off the Silly Stitches series, readers count to five by following an upbeat rhyme while searching for animals hidden in forest. Forgo uses patchwork patterns and faux-stitched outlines for the setting and characters, which are further embellished by foil and glitter accents. The animals—including a bear, fox, and squirrel—are easily spotted behind trees or on branches; this is very much a book aimed at building confidence and visual skills for youngest readers. Rideout’s rhymes can be stilted (“Owl, Squirrel, Bear, Fox, and Bunny/ have all been found by you”), but the artwork exerts a homey, cozy charm.
