Diana: The Lonely Princess

Nicholas Davies. Carol Publishing Corporation, $22.5 (0pp) ISBN 978-1-55972-360-2

Davies here updates his 1991 Diana: A Princess and Her Troubled Marriage by recreating her life since her separation from Prince Charles in 1992. In stilted language, Davies strives for objectivity in this unauthorized account, but his reliance on anonymous sources makes much of his material speculative. Diana is described as filled with anger at Charles, at Camilla Parker Bowles (his reputed lover), at Tiggy (the woman Charles hired to watch his children) and particularly at the Royal family. Although she has overcome her eating disorders, according to the author, she is lonely for her children, who are at boarding school, emotionally insecure and dependent on various therapies. Davies also discusses Diana's love affairs, her interview with the BBC and her continued commitment to charity work. Not much here. Photos not seen by PW. (June)
