Willie Sutton escaped from many jails, fled Holmesburg Prison in Philadelphia in 1947 and five years later was recognized on a Brooklyn subway by Arnold Schuster, who was later gunned down. Privy to much of the subsequent gang activity was Dannie Vale, a young Mafioso who may have been the illegitimate son of a mob captain. The book is primarily Vale's story: he was sexually molested by his mother and aunt, and he knew thugs like Joe Gallo and Albert Anastasia. Although information about the Schuster killing is revealed in this expose by the author of A Kiss on Each Cheek , it's doubtful that at this late date many are interested in this minor gangland episode.
