CRITICAL VIEWS OF SEPTEMBER 11: Analyses from Around the World

Scholars and critics of isolationism will welcome the 13 sophisticated essays, primarily by non-U.S. analysts, that Social Science Research Council program directors Hershberg and Moore have assembled here. Many of the essays are expanded versions of submissions to a Web site that SSRC established in the wake of the tragedy; all consider the effects September 11 for U.S. foreign policy and for the rest of the world. Though the contributors (Francisco Gutiérrez Sanín, Mahmood Mamdani, Didier Bigo and others) express differing views on religion, terrorism and globalization, they all seem to point to "the importance for humankind of the Americans' getting [their policies] right" as the whole world watches.
