God is in the Small Stuff: And It All Matters

Bruce Bickel. Promise Press, $12.99 (249pp) ISBN 978-1-57748-448-6

One wonders why Bickel and Jance (Bruce and Stan's Guide to God) waited so long to write this little book. In it, the authors give a Christian response to Richard Carlson's bestselling Don't Sweat the Small Stuff... and It's All Small Stuff. What's missing from Carlson's account, according to the authors, is God. The awe-inspiring creator of the universe isn't the vast and uninvolved God perceived by so many but an intimate friend and father who is keenly aware of and concerned about the ""small stuff"" in everyone's lives. In 40 short essays, Bickel and Jance provide words of inspiration and encouragement, based on biblical truths. Prayer, anxiety, health--nothing, in the authors' eyes, is too small to be important to God. ""We love God because we know who he is. He loves us despite who we are,"" they remind us in one chapter. Other snippets of wisdom: ""God's plans are perfect. That said, seek his will."" And, ""Little is much if God is in it."" (Jan.)
