Surrendered Love

Laura V. Hilton. Whitaker House, $12.99 trade paperback (256p) ISBN 978-1-60374-507-9

Hinton’s newest, book two in the Amish of Webster County series, takes readers through the up-and-down love story of Janna Kaufman, an obedient Amish daughter, and Hiram “Troy” Troyer, an Englischer (non-Amish) police officer with an Amish past. Janna had a crush on Hiram when they were younger, but never dreamed she’d see him again. Troy, once he sees Janna, can’t stop thinking about her. Yet so much keeps them apart: Meghan Forrest, Janna’s niece, who seems to attract trouble; Troy’s shadowed past that threatens to overturn the relationships he reforges with his family and Janna; Janna’s firm desire to stay in the Amish church; Troy’s determination to stay in the Englischer world; and an Amish suitor named Micah. While love is in the air, so is a prominent theme of forgiveness. Can Troy receive the true forgiveness he craves? Can Janna truly forgive him? Despite the predictable loves-me/loves-me-not seesaw, fans of Amish fiction will find much to enjoy. (Apr.)
