Haunted Sanctuary

Moira Rogers. Samhain Publishing, $5.50 e-book (242p) ISBN 978-1-61921-220-6

Rogers (2012’s Impulse) returns to familiar territory in a contemporary paranormal that doesn’t break any new ground, introducing a new group of shape-shifters fighting for their own sanctuary. Eden Green, a librarian in the small town of Clover, Tenn., has known werewolves exist ever since her younger cousin Zack was born with the ability to assume lupine form. She’s thus aware of what to expect after being bitten by one while checking up on her family’s property, Green Pines Farm, which turns out to harbor some of the shape-shifters. Fortunately, Eden has local sheriff Jay Ancheta, another werewolf, to coach her through her first change and help her become the alpha of the refugee pack now residing at the farm. Readers may enjoy Jay’s dominance in the pack and the bedroom, but are unlikely to find either of the leads compelling. (Jan.)
