Parmley and Ruffing, the team behind graphic design firm 13th Floor, offer an alphabet board book that screams punk rock, not primer. The tone is set from the first page. “A is for axe,” and the word is rendered in a font ready for a Megadeth album, above an electric guitar with hellfire and amps in the background. Yet despite hardcore entries like camo, graffiti, and mohawk, the book has a kinder, Berkeley-style alternative streak, too—Earth Day, unity, and yoga, to name a few. Ages 2–up. (Aug.)
