Valores Humanos y Cultura de Calidad: La Diferencia Competitiva de las Empresas Exitosas del Siglo 21 = Human Values and Value Culture

Alfredo T. Lopez. Ediciones Castillo, $15.95 (289pp) ISBN 978-970-20-0117-1

Roman Catholic priest and former direc- tor of human resources for a major Mexican firm, Tobias Lopez offers his book as a tool to reintegrate values into the workplace. He asserts that companies must take on the responsibility of making up for a lack of moral education in today's homes and schools. In this workbook, adapted from a series of workshops given for employees in various Mexican companies, Tobias Lopez emphasizes the development of both Christian and Mexican values for all employees, from laborers to senior man- agement. One of the self-study exercises is based on a reading of the Mexican national hymn, for example. The nature of the exercises requires personal, introspective work on the part of the reader as well as interaction with co-workers and/or family members. The five-step process probably has greater effect in workshop form, but the book may motivate the leaders of businesses or other organizations to consider values-based professional development for themselves and their employees. Recommended for large Catholic or Christian libraries, large public libraries with professional development and/or religion collections, and large booksellers with an active business section in Spanish.--Catharine Cebrowski, Biblioteca de la Univ.
