ArchivesIt's Your Opinion...But should you share it?
Posted by Barbara Vey on October 10, 2008
![]() There's always been controversy in the world and there always will be. Two sides or more to every story, which is what keeps authors in business (lots of different stories to write). But, when you're a professional, how much of what you believe to be the truth should you share with the public? With the upcoming election, we have been bombarded by the media in television, radio, newspapers, magazines and the internet. Add in the state of the economy and opinions start flying and tempers rising. I certainly have mine and my friends and family have offered lively debate on where we are and where we should be going. During the debates, Twitter is ablaze with those following along and offering their inte...Read More Trust me, you'll love this book

People are always talking about their favorite books and wanting others to read them, so they can all discuss it. Or they just are so thrilled with what they read that they just want to share the joy. I am so guilty of this. I can't resist putting my two cents in at the library, at the bookstores, at the mall, the doctor (yes, I even tell my doctor what to read), at sporting events...well, just anywhere there's another person. ...Read More WW Ladies Book Club Blurbs

I officially have Delicious Library on my computer now and absolutely love it. My niece came over this weekend and scanned hundreds of books into the program. It's so easy. You just hold the bar code up to the computer's built in camera. The book is scanned and a male voice announces the title and author. Then all the other info goes in, like publisher, price, synopsis and even recommendations (taken from Amazon, which I don't read anyway). The books are all placed on a shelf and if I give one out, I just drag the book to the person's name and it's recorded. I feel so organized! Literary Characters: Trick or Treat Edition

Halloween is only a couple of weeks away, but it seems to be getting to be a bigger celebration every year. Around here, people decorate all most as much as they do at Christmas. There are lights and big blow-ups on the lawn and graveyards everywhere (Here lies Izzy Riley Dead). Of course, this year I'm betting the costume most seen will be Tina Fey as Sarah Palin. Come on, how hard is it to dress up like that? ...Read More This, that and the Other Thing Monday

Welcome to Monday's This, that and the other thing. Peturday (Pet Saturday, thanks Kristen Painter), had our second set of author/pet match ups and we have a 3 way tie: Kimmy Lane, Dina and Danielle Atwater who got all the answers right. Well done. From the comment section, the winner is Nettisue. And since I didn't hear from the winners of las...Read More Pets and Petaholics Contest

![]() I hope you're all rested up from the debate last night. The internet is smoking with everyone expressing their opinions. So, now I'll add mine...but not about the debate. It's about the books I've been reading lately and, as usual on Fridays, I invite you to share what books you've been involved with lately. First up is the anthology Nature of the Beast. Dark Hero by Hannah Howell. In 1512 Scotland, Berawald MacNachton lives in cave by choice. Running away from men chasing her and her brother, Evanna Massey stumble upon his hideaway. Bride of the Beast by ...Read More Banned Books Week

![]() This is Banned Books Week. According to the American Library Association: Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read is observed during the last week of September each year. Observed since 1982, this annual ALA event reminds Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted. This year, 2008, marks BBW's 27th anniversary (September 27 through October 4). BBW celebrates the freedom to choose or the freedom to express one’s opinion even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular and stresses the importance of ensuring the availability of those unorthodox or unpopular ...Read More More Romance than you can shake a stick at

![]() Last night, Robert Wagner was on the Tonight Show talking about his autobiography, Pieces of My Heart. He talked about his 2 marriages to Natalie Wood and then about her tragic drowning accident. He said he wrote the book as a tribute, but now he's been married to Jill St. John for the past 19 years. They also showed a clip of him singing "Honeycomb" on the Dinah Shore Show and I remember seeing that program (I know all the words to the song too). Of course, I forget what day of the week it is, but I remember a show from the sixties. So, from fact to fiction, here's the WW Ladies Book Blurbs...Read More Twittering Tuesday

![]() I know I've mentioned Twitter to you before, but it's hit a new high. Seeing into the lives of your favorite characters one sentence at a time. Twitter is a social network... I joined several months ago and now have 310 people following me and I follow 200. Twitter asks, "What are you doing?" and you just type in whatever. Some examples: It's 49 degrees here this morning. Gah! right, off to my oh so boring lecture about POETRY (damnit) ...Read More Dexter, Brewers, Paul Newman: Trifecta Monday

![]() I'm not sure I knew what I was unleasing when I suggested people send pictures of their pets and themselves so we could have some fun matching them up. But it obviously has become very popular. I have received over 70 entries and they still keep coming. So, to make it easier and more fun, I'll be posting every Saturday with even more chances to win. (Problems with the server today prevented me from adding more pictures, sorry) Answers will be posted Monday and winners announced. Here's the simple rules: Send in a pic of your pet (real, stuffed, imaginary) and one of yourself. Readers will try to match pet/owner to win fabulous prizes (like Pain and Panic characters from Disney's Hercules). ...Read More
