Tor Books has announced the details on the final book of Robert Jordan’s bestselling Wheel of Time series. The Gathering Storm, book 12 of the Wheel of Time series—and the first of three volumes that will make up A Memory of Light—will go on sale November 3. A Memory of Light, itself a three-volume work, is partially written by Jordan and completed by Brandon Sanderson; it will be released over a two-year period.
Jordan died in 2007 from a rare blood disease. Sanderson, the New York Times bestselling author of the Mistborn books, was chosen by Jordan’s editor—his wife, Harriet McDougal—to complete the final book.
The Wheel of Time series has sold more than 14 million copies in North America and more than 30 million copies worldwide with translations into 28 languages. Tor president and publisher Tom Doherty said A Memory of Light is “a magnificent closure to a great American epic fantasy whose journey began almost 20 years ago. There is no way Robert Jordan would have squeezed it to a single volume, and somehow it seems fitting that what began as a trilogy will also end as one.”
To promote the book, an event called JordanCon will take place April 17 to 19 in Alpharetta, Ga. McDougal, Doherty, Sanderson and their colleagues will speak about the series. The event will also include a preview of The Gathering Storm.
