Caldecott Medal—winning illustrator Gerald McDermott has created artwork to decorate the new bookmobile at the Escondido (Calif.) Public Library. The vehicle, which is painted hot pink and decorated with characters from McDermott's books, will cruise the highways and byways of northern San Diego county, delivering books to schools and branch libraries.

McDermott attended the bookmobile's unveiling last month at Escondido's Grape Day Park, where he signed copies of his books.
