Taylor & Francis Opens E-bookstore

Paul Hilts -- Publishers Weekly, 7/16/2001

Taylor & Francis Group plc, the academic publisher whose imprints include Routledge, Garland Science, Psychology Press and Europa, has launched the Taylor & Francis eBookstore (www. eBookstore.taylorandfrancis.com).

Visitors to the site will be able to browse and download text from an initial list of more than 400 of the company's most popular titles. As an added incentive, a number of leading titles will be available on the site for between $2 and $10. T&F officials expect to expand the number of titles available to some 1,000 by September and to more than 2,500 by the end of the year. The titles will be available in three formats: Microsoft Reader (for PCs and Pocket PCs), Adobe eBook Reader (for use on PCs and Macintoshes) and Mobipocket (for use on Palms, Psions and PCs).

Bob Rooney, v-p of sales and marketing, told PW, "We have to make our information as accessible as possible, and this is the next step in a strategy that will ensure that our growing e-book list is available to the widest possible audience, including through a number of independent e-retailers. It is too early to predict demand, but I am encouraged by the increasing interest for academic material." With offices in the U.S., the U.K., Scandinavia, Singapore and India, Taylor & Francis publishes more than 800 journals and nearly 1,800 new books each year, with a backlist in excess of 20,000 titles.
