Tying In with Ambrose

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 8/20/2001

Stephen E. Ambrose served as the historical consultant on Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan, the 1998 blockbuster starring Tom Hanks. Now the three are together again for another WWII film, this one a 10-part HBO miniseries based on the author's Band of Brothers. Ambrose has written a new foreword to the 1992 story of Easy Company, a band of paratroopers that saw much action during the war's last three years. Total in print for the old Touchstone paper edition was 186,500; the publisher re-released that edition last June with an additional 174,500 copies, followed by the new HBO tie-in edition this month with 250,000 copies in print (that all adds up to 611,000 copies).

With reporting by Dick Donahue.
