Broadway Hot on Green

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 8/20/2001

Another British import, novelist Jane Green, has been doing well enough with her two trendy-girl titles to date, Jemima J and Mr. Maybe, to encourage Broadway editor Ann Campbell to sign her for two more books in the same vein from agent Deborah Schneider at Gelfman & Schneider. They are Babyville, to be published in summer 2003, and Spellbound, a year later—both after initial appearances in the U.K., where Green is a reliable bestseller. The author has just moved to the U.S. with her family.

Meanwhile, Broadway's Jennifer Josephy just bought at auction a book by Eleanora Scarpetta, an Italian-born cook who became a star on Martha Stewart's TV show. Her Eleanora's Kitchen will be a mixture of authentic Neapolitan recipes handed down by her mother and anecdotes and stories from the Bronx, where she grew up. Josephy paid a little over $200,000 for U.S. and Canadian to agent Janis Donnaud and plans to publish in 2003—by which time the author will have her own TV show via Al Roker's TV food production company.
