The adult trade segment had its best month of the year in June, with sales in the hardcover segment up 22.9% over June 2000, and sales of trade paperbacks up 20.3%. Despite the strong June, sales for the first six months of the year were down 12.8% in the hardcover segment, while sales of trade paperbacks rose 0.4%. The education segments continued to be the industry's star performers this year; elhi sales were ahead 17.8% in the January–June period and college sales rose 14.8%. Both segments had solid June gains, with sales in the college category jumping 33.6% and elhi sales increasing 20.1%.
