A Piano Memoir Preempted

By John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 9/10/2001

An untitled memoir by colorful Steinway Pianos sales executive Erica Feidner, recently profiled in the New Yorker as the "matchmaker" who matches her pianos with famous pianists, was preempted by Annik Lafarge at Crown. She bought North American rights from agent Melanie Jackson, and a movie deal is also said to be in the offing. James Stewart's profile for the magazine depicted a highly colorful woman he described as "a force of nature," whose passion for music and musicians has informed her life. Feidner was trained as a pianist herself, and Lafarge said the book promises to be "a poignant and wonderfully humorous tale of a life in music."
