Music News

-- Publishers Weekly, 3/10/1997

Their eponymous first album has sold five million copies and their top pop hit, "Wannabe," is the most popular video on MTV. Now those omnipresent Brit chicks, The Spice Girls, are the subject of an instant book from Ballantine that will ship a 100,000-copy first printing at the end of April. The book, logically entitled The Spice Girls, was written by a British native under the pseudonym Anna Louise Golden, and was acquired by Ballantine editorial director of trade paperbacks Maureen O'Neal. The official bio, from Virgin/London Bridge, has a full U.S. release planned for May.

Other recent book signings in the music field include autobiographies from R&B singer Teddy Pendergrass, scheduled for a fall 1998 release from Putnam, and Darlene Love, scheduled for a October 1998 pub from Morrow, both final deals reported earlier in the New York Post.
