A Sales Record that Hasn't Been Steel-ed

by Daisy Maryles, with Dick Donahue -- Publishers Weekly, 4/21/1997

Danielle Steel's 39th novel, The Ranch, went on sale April 2 with a one-million-copy first printing and, while it still has not garnered the lead spot, the author can certainly claim to be the longest-running regular author on the bestseller lists. In fact, since 1982, there hasn't been a single year without a Steel novel on PW's annual bestseller lists. That is a feat that has thus far been matched by no other author. Equally impressive is the fact that her books have been translated into 28 languages for 46 different countries. Delacorte is planing a print ad campaign that extends through Mother's Day, about the same time that book #37, Malice, goes on sale nationally in the Dell mass market edition.
