Coyne and the Colonel

by Judy Quinn -- Publishers Weekly, 4/28/1997

Doubleday senior editor Shawn Coyne told PW that he set a $750,000 floor for a first novel proposal by Newsweek military affairs correspondent Col. David Hackworth because he "wanted to scare off other publishers." Well, he did, and Coyne acquired the tentatively titled In Search of Honor, which concerns a young man's quest to clear his Vietnam vet father's name, from agent Henry Morrison and plans it to be a Doubleday's lead fiction title for fall 1998. Hackworth's About Face, a Vietnam memoir, has sold more than 100,000 copies to date, and his latest, Hazardous Duty, is just out from Morrow.
