'Mayday' Returns

A navy missile hits a passenger jet. No, this is not the pitch of a nonfiction book about TWA #800 from Pierre Salinger, but rather the plot of Nelson DeMille's 1979 thriller Mayday, co-written with pilot and author Thomas Block, which had a 60,000 first printing from hardcover publisher Putnam and has sold 500,000 copies in Berkley mass market to date. In January, Warner will release a second 500,000-copy mass market printing of the technically updated book, which will tie into a TV movie being developed by Paramount/Rehmi-Neufeld and ABC-TV.
