Tenth Hits Lucky Seven

-- Publishers Weekly, 5/26/1997

If first starts are any barometer, the newest publisher at William Morrow is hitting the ground running. The initial entry in the Rob Weisbach Books imprint, Brad Meltzer's The Tenth Justice (also a debut), is in the midst of a media blitz that seems to be paying off. Published on May 14, the legal thriller now has 106,000 copies in print after two trips back to press. Jumping onto PW's fiction list at #7, the book was termed "Page-Turner of the Week in the May 19 People: "Meltzer... shows a veteran's panache with plot and pacing." The 26-year-old author wrote the novel for academic credit while a student at Columbia Law School (he graduated last year); he's now been profiled in the New York Times, written a feature for Details magazine and been interviewed in such diverse publications as Washingtonian and Swing magazines. Meltzer kicked off an 11-city junket with a pub day appearance on Today plus several other interviews. Justice, which is a Literary Guild Super release, was cited as one of the summer's hot reads by Time and Cosmopolitan; film rights have been sold to Fox 2000. Just look what a law school education can do.
