In the Kids' Corner

by Diane Roback -- Publishers Weekly, 6/16/1997

Because PW's children's bestseller list includes only new and recently published titles, Dr. Seuss's Oh, the Places You'll Go! (Random, 1990) appeared too long ago for consideration; otherwise it would be #1 on our picture book list. With 3,500,000 copies in print, it has become a favorite gift for graduates, skyrocketing to the top of bookstore bestseller lists at the end of every school year.

Elsewhere on the picture book front, at a time when it has become increasingly difficult to establish new talent, many publishers are turning to a more certain way of landing big sales: issuing board book editions of backlist bestsellers. This month's list includes three of them, with strong reports received for seven others.
