Dedicated to publishing literary writing on sports, Breakaway Books today has 15 titles in print, among them an old H.G. Wells cycling novel, a baseball novel, a rugby novel, anthologies on basketball, cycling and tennis and a history of marathon swimming. Now the boutique firm has scored its second reprint sale with John Jerome's The Elements of Effort: Reflections on the Art and Science of Running. "It's a small, elegant volume that d s for running what Harvey Penick's Little Red Book did for golf," says Breakaway publisher Garth Battista. Greer Kessel at Washington Square Press secured the rights for $45,000.
