Cochran Project G s to Doubleday
Judy Quinn -- 1/12/98

Former O.J. trial defense lawyer Johnnie Cochran, who was paid a rumored $4 million-plus for the O.J. disappointment Journey to Justice last year, has now received a share in a much lower, rumored mid-six-figure advance from Doubleday for a new book. To be written by bestselling true crime writer Jack Olsen, the book will focus on the case of Geronimo Pratt, the imprisoned Black Panther leader Cochran worked 25 years to free. Olsen, Cochran, Pratt and California lawyer Stuart Hanlon, who also worked on the case, will share in the advance and promote the book. Doubleday editor Shawn Coyne and agent Russ Galen negotiated the Doubleday/Anchor hard/soft deal. A publication is timed for next year's Black History month, February 1999.
