Bantam's Healthy Backlist Newcomers

Four years after the Bantam hardcover publication of Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom by Dr. Christine Northup, a completely revised and updated paperback is showing up on the trade bestseller charts. In the interim years, the book has enjoyed steady sales, bringing the in-print total to more than 250,000 combined hardcover and paper copies. The revised edition coincided with a March two-part public TV special hosted by the author that was broadcast on more than 50 stations nationwide. As part of the promotion for the programs, Dr. Northup appeared at several of the affiliates in support of their pledge drives (this must be a new author bestseller booster), exceeding all expectations when the stations reported earnings of up to 30% more than anticipated. The revised edition has already been back to press three times this past month, taking the total to a healthy 400,000 copies.

Another bestseller for Bantam is Protein Power by Drs. Michael R. Eades and Mary Dan Eades, which was first published in 1996 and was certainly a favorite of deputy publisher Nita Taublib, who lost (and has kept off) more than 50 pounds by following the Eadeses' regimen. The hardcover went back to press 23 times, shipped some 5000 copies a month for more than a year, and currently has over 175,000 copies in print. The mass market has gone back to press seven times since January and has more than 350,000 copies in print.
