Iva Kaplan Ashner, v-p, editor and director of advertising at W.W. Norton &Co., died from cancer at New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan March 13. She was 54.

Ashner joined Norton in 1967 after working briefly at Dell. She was soon named director of advertising and was named v-p in 1986. She edited titles in the areas of environmental affairs, travel and food, including a distinguished series for the Worldwatch Institute and the Blue Guides travel series. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Iva Kaplan Ashner Writing Fellowship at 24 Pearl St., Provincetown, Mass. 02657.
