Book sales at Musicland fell by an undisclosed amount in 1997, the company said in its annual report. Book sales in 1996 were $126 million. The company attributed the decline to a reduction in the number of Media Play outlets as well as a cut in the number of titles offered through Media Play and On Cue. In 1997, Media Play carried some 27,000 titles, compared to 29,000 in 1996, while On Cue offered 3300 titles last year, down from 4000 in 1996.
