Hot Deals: A Sequel-of-Sorts- to 'Loose Change'
Judy Quinn -- 4/27/98

Publishers looking for strong women's fiction got excited by agent Joy Harris's shopping of Cowboy, the first novel in a decade by Sara Davidson, a TV writer and previous Rock Hudson autobiography cowriter perhaps best known for the '60s coming-of-age novel Loose Change, first published in 1977 and just reissued (with the claim of a million copies sold) by the University of California Press. Like Loose Change, Cowboy has an autobiographical character called Sara, this time involved in a post-50 affair with a younger wrangler. Before Harris's planned auction, HarperCollins/Cliff Street Books publisher Diane Reverand made the rumored close-to-$500,000 preempt to acquire the book.
