In a significant leap from what agent Carol Mann termed "an advance as minimum as it can be" for his NBCC Award-winning bio of Ernie Pyle, James E. Tobin has received a "solid" six-figure advance with current publisher Free Press for his next book, Kitty Hawk: Wilbur Wright and the Race for Flight. Free Press plans to publish the book in 2001, two years prior to the Wright flight centennial.
